~ Endless Weekend ~ by Karrlin Bain

Endless Weekend
by Karrlin Bain

Like a Crystal Set of Bookends
Filled only with Good Books
The Classics & Fine Treasures
Hidden Crannies & Nooks

Pining for the Weekend
Stretching Long Ahead
Minds Eye Does Quite Envision
Arrival on other end

With All Tasks Gone & Relaxed
To Do Lists all Ta Done
Memories Lived and Captured
Existing Love and Fun

As for that day that follows
Whose name we'll whisper not
That day we'll joyful banish
It is all but forgot

Off with that day This Moment
Mischievously Send
Replacing it with Magic
Of Continual Weekend

Cherished Snowflakes
by Karrlin Bain

Snowflakes
United this Morning
And Broke my Windshield Wipers
But I forgave them because they are the
Loveliest, Miracle-iest, Delicate-iest, Sweetest
Little intricates That I have ever been Blessed enough
To See and when I Remember my Most Magical
Wonder Awe Filled Growing Up Memories
Snowflakes Crisply Glisten Within
In the Most Heartlifting
Snowglobesque
Fashion

The Fog
by Karrlin Bain

The Fog sets in

Perfection in hiding
Coating Existence
With Sleep

Silence Sings

Dreamweavers
And Raindrops
Only the Mist
Is to Keep

Finally all else

Falls Further Away
And Softness of Sky
Lingers Deep

I Love Teaching ~ And Art Too ~ A Dinosaur Lesson Plan ~ by Karrlin Bain

~ Blooming Artist ~
by Karrlin Bain

October 4, 2012         ~ I love Teaching... and Art too! ~
Today's Objective: Post a picture (the 1st ever!) to my blog to see if I can do it, save and CELEBRATE all my artistic endeavors from the past:

Okay... don't freak out...
This is NOT my most recent attempt at being an artist...
This is a "work of art" that I created  in 2009 while I was a Student Teacher in a second grade classroom.  It is, however, my original artistic work.  : )
I believe it is a perfect rendition of me as dinosaur.
This is a fun lesson for all!
~ I love Teaching... and Art too! ~

Really, isn't that where all true ART
begins... when we are lovely children?

There is a book to reference here.....
I just found the poem for this lesson on this great site:
The book we read (in addition to others) was:
A Dinosaur Named After Me by Bernard Most.

MUMS the Word! ~ By Karrlin Bain

~ Happiness Only Blog ~

October 4, 2012

MUMS the Word!!!!!

This year I said "forget saving money" (...seems I say that a lot...) and splurged (for us~for now) on 2 Fall Mum Plants from the Piggly Wiggly!  I love them!!!

I remember growing up in our house on Laura Street and every fall the mums would come up.... which means... drum~roll please... YES they are perennials and I must plant mine! Oh yes... back to Laura Street...  Every fall the mums would come up with their leafy greens... then bud... and THEN flower and SMELL SO VERY WONDERFUL along the side of our ranch home on the dead end road.  I am pretty sure the mUm plants that my mOm had planted were a rich brownish rust burgundy color.  They were SO lovely!  I would sniff them like crazy!  Sometimes the flowers would FREEZE with a snow and be FROZEN BEAUTY in time...

Be sure to run and find some now...
 treat yourself this fall!

Kassandra

An Eighth Grade Graduation Poem
by Karrlin Bain ~ May 2011

She has a sweet heart and is one too
She is just good through and through
If I had not met Kassandra
I don’t know what I’d do
I’m friends with her family
And her past student teacher too

My life in books ~ by Karrlin Bain

My life in books

What is the point?  Read "My life in books" only if you want to...
* Learn some reasons (there are so many) why reading is important
* Learn some AMAZING titles of books for (m)any ages to enjoy
* Learn more about one person's (that's me) experience with books

My life in books

Books have always been my favorite things, ever since Mrs. Tutt taught me to read when I was a very little girl. I grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin, in a little green house on Stark Street. When I was three I walked down the street by myself and told Mr. Tutt in his driveway “mungry”, which translated meant “I’m hungry”. With that I earned some chocolate cake and also the best friends I would ever meet. I know that angels guided me to this man and his wife who was inside the house, because they became my own personal angels, taking care of me, loving me and best of all teaching me to read!

An Ode to Mrs. Martin ~ by Karrlin Bain

I am so happy that I was able to student teach in Mrs. Martin's classroom!!! When I left there I wrote this poem for her. This little poem doesn't begin to summarize what a great teacher she is! There are so many great teachers I have learned from over the years.

I don't know who said it but there is that AWESOME and true quote: "If you are reading this, thank a teacher!"

An Ode to Mrs. Martin
My Cooperating Teacher

By Karrlin Bain ~ June 2009

I have a role model
She is real, kind, and fun
When presented with teachers
I knew she was the one

My Dishes So Mismatched ~ by Karrlin Bain

When asked to help out with a church dinner by setting a table so more people could join us I began to get rather nervous! I thought... well maybe I can explain!!! Here is my story and I am sticking to it!!....

My Dishes So Mismatched
                               by Karrlin Bain

                               December 7, 2010

Welcome friends to this my table
Thanks for believing I am able
To set a proper place.

Enjoy my dishes so mismatched
If I were home I’d whip up a batch
Of my famous Mac & Cheese ~ it’s Kraft!

See my mixed in snowman plates?
Used all year long ~ Such is their fates
They seem to rather like it!

They were a gift from friends so dear
And when I see the plates I hear
Their kindly words from o'er the years
They make me feel so loved.

The flowered plates were from my friend
Our friendship the kind to never end
My best friend since sixth grade!

She gave me those plates for the best reason
Christmas giving was the season
Okay… she got them because I made her!

The lovely peach plates with blue stripes
Are from a fancy store
I got them clearance and saved them for
A special meal for two.
Would you believe they’ve sat and sat
And waited just for you?

Please note the hammered silverware
The few pieces I have are scattered here and there
They were my grandma’s set.
The set is random and mostly gone
But they are so sturdy and remind me of
My grandma’s gifts and love.

The gifts she gave were gifts of time
Of teaching and of love
She’d show me her plants
And teach me to sew
We stood back to back
And she watched me grow
Taller than her ~ in the mirror.

When I fell asleep on her sunshine couch
She’d cover me while I slept
With a handmade afghan ~ where is it now?
It's the memories that I’ve kept.

She could sew an entire dress
My skills end at a button
She could create a four course meal
I press the microwave button.

I know she did not really care
That my homemaking skills were poor
What matters most is that I know
She couldn’t have loved me more.

The sage floral green plates
Were from my husband
They represent our partnership
Because he checked with me
To see if I liked them
And we decided together
To buy them
In past days we’d not seen eye to eye
On dishes ~ nor on life
But this simple compromise on plates to me
Represents a larger scale end of strife

So now you see my Mismatched Set
Is filled with joy and life
With laughter, friendship, tears and pain
With the love and dreams of a wife

This Mismatched Set is no mistake
And remember when this is over
Just like my favorite pastime books
No plate can be judged by its cover
Listen to the owner’s tales
And their stories may be uncovered

Don’t worry if you are like me
And can barely set a table
Our gifts are all diverse and grand
And in so many ways
We each are able

Just love yourself and each other too
No matter what each is made of

Greatest Gift ~ by Karrlin Bain

Greatest Gift
By Karrlin Bain ~ August 2012

Once upon a spring filled time
There was just a little girl
Her life was moving forward
Most times in such a whirl

At three ~ off on an adventure
She wandered (four houses) away
Across Stark Street
Over near Tom Field
Guardian angels she met that day

Mr. and Mrs. Tutt lived there
In their sweet little house of white
A retired principal and teacher they were
This little girl knew all was just right

“Mungry” she said
Short for “I’m hungry” he knew
Right then their love for her sealed
You see they’d no children of their own
Through this friendship
Their hearts were well healed

Mrs. Tutt taught her to read
All by the young age of five
With her they shared
Their hearts and their home
Forever impacting her life

Through all the rest of her days this girl
Read her way right through thick and through thin
She loved books, poems, writing and words so much
The rest of life barely fit in

They had given the greatest gift
Imagination, Dreams, and Hope
Wings of Exciting Escape
The most Magical Mind and Scope

The Journey is the Dream ~ by Karrlin Bain

“A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is
to think you control it.”
 John Steinbeck (Thinkexist.com)

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
~ Robert Frost ~ excerpt from The Road Not Taken

"Don't stop believing"  by Journey (Hey... that counts!  ; )

"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives.
But I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey
reminds us to cherish every moment because they'll never come again. What
we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived."
Jean-Luc Picard (13 July 2305 -) is a character in the Star Trek fictional universe

                            The Journey is the Dream
                                                      by Karrlin Bain

A dream just out of reach
Is of course the dream to chase
Stretch and grow and then just know
That you have won the race

Remember also what they say
As you move through each new day
The finish itself makes not the win
It is the journey on the way

So then I ask you this my friend
If that dream in very end
You did not quite achieve
How can it be an all-out fail
If in the journey you believe

The only fail there could have been
Was to give up on the way
And now your journey is achieved
Today is a new day

Believing that
These new days face
With hope and ease that dream erase
Then don’t give it a second thought
And now with
Brighter dreams
Replace
