Wonderment ~ My 2014 Word of the Year by Karrlin Bain

The "Flying Sisters" are the wonderful group of artists and creatives that took the awesome class by Kelly Rae Roberts (called Flying Lessons) with me this during the summer/fall of 2012.  We enjoy sharing our dreams, hopes, and details regarding living creative lives.  This will be the second year that a bunch of us choose and share our Word of the Year for the upcoming year.

Last year for 2013 my WOTY (Word of the Year) was "IN" ~ click here to see the post ~ This was FUN and EXCITING!

I was definitely "IN" throughout the year... but it was mostly "IN" doing FAMILY living at its best, doing the chores of life, and also substitute teaching. I have learned how to also be "IN" a creative life by collecting and organizing ideas for the future when I have MORE time in my life for purposeful creativity. There will be time in the future as my kids grow up. Right now I am pretty much "IN" to what they are doing and also "IN" to keeping our house a HOME and working for a living. :D

This year my Word of the Year is (drum roll please....)

Wonderment...
Oh my, it is surrounded by many words... keep reading to see why...

This year I just want to be able to view the world with a sense of wonder... kind of like Lee Ann Womack says in the song "I Hope you Dance"

"I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.

: a feeling caused by seeing something that is very surprising, beautiful, amazing, etc.

Wonderment

Vocabulary.com says:
Wonderment is a feeling of surprise, awe, and joy. People felt wonderment when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.
Wonder is a feeling of surprised amazement, and so is wonderment. If you feel wonderment, you can't quite believe what you're seeing, but you definitely like it. Parents feel wonderment at the birth of their children, and when their children start walking and talking. Looking at the infinite stars in the sky can create a feeling of wonderment. Being in nature stirs wonderment in many people. Anything that creates wonderment is likely to make you say "Wow!"

ABOUT WONDERMENT AND MY LIFE:

I certainly know HOW to look at the world with a sense of wonderment!  Anyone that knows me knows that I TRY to do this.... actually that is kind of what this blog is all about!
I also know that I cannot JUST do this.  I cannot just look at the world with a sense of Wonder right off the bat because there are a lot of GIANT ROADBLOCKS in my way to my lifetime of "wonder".
There are things that I need to overcome before my life will be "light" enough or "simplified" enough for me to enjoy life for all of its wonder.  If I were to choose all of the words EACH year that I would need to choose to finally get to "wonderment", I would be able to have the wonderful "wonderment" as my word in THIRTEEN YEARS!!!
Well I am just not willing to wait that long... so I have utilized the other TWELVE words in a WORD picture and also in a WORD poem.  I have used up my twelve words in the way that is necessary for me to overcome some hurdles and then just GET RIGHT TO my "WONDERMENT".

Wait before responding
Best practice count to ten
Respect yourself and others
Don’t be reactive, then
Journal what you think and feel
Just Breathe, cherish, and strive
To Simplify your home and life then
Peace will conquer over strife
Minimalize with Discipline
Great Change will come alive
Choose Gratitude as action and
Know Love is Heaven sent
Be Intentional each moment to
Bask in the world’s
Wonderment
